McKenzie River – Hayden to Armitage – August 22nd

This tour starts at Hayden Bridge Landing. This is a Lane County Park with a $4 parking fee. We plan to paddle from here to Armitage Park, about 8.5 miles downstream. Along the way we will have the opportunity to improve our boating skills on this lazy section of the river. Lovely scenery with plenty of birding in this section of the river.
The McKenzie River is a clean, clear and cold drainage coming off the flanks of Oregon’s cascade volcanoes. After challenging rapids up river it begins to level out. It starts to become braided with many islands to paddle around. This section is perfect for us to enjoy because it’s so mellow and it’s conveniently located in town.
